The Heldense Bossen and the Kesselse Bergen form a continuous forest area between the villages of Baarlo and Helden. The Heldense Bossen were planted around the 20s and 30s of the 20th century on former drifting sand areas.
The conifers were initially used as mining timber - timber to support the mine galleries - but nowadays there is almost no logging. Most of the forest is now a resting area for birds and other animal species.
